Synod Endowment Fund
The Eastern North Dakota "Synod Endowment Fund to sustain rural ministry and enhance quality pastoral leadership" was established by the EaND synod council in 2000. The fund is intended to maintain viable ministries and sustain congregations in rural eastern North Dakota. This can be accomplished by providing financial encouragement for those considering seminary attendance and also enhancing the overall compensation of rostered leaders serving within our synod, particularly those encumbered by substantial student loan debt.
Purposes of the Fund:
1.Scholarship Aid for Seminarians
2.Student Loan Repayment Aid Program
3.Pension Equity Program
4.Rural Internship Assistance
Through several large individual gifts (including a lead gift of $600,000), and proceeds of annual Synod Endowment Sunday offerings, the fund has grown to over $3.8 million by September 30, 2017. This generous support has resulted in payouts of about $1.4 million to pastors and seminarians through the end of 2016.
Pastors serving within our synod may apply for grants with a deadline of March 15 and will be notified annually of this opportunity. Seminarians from Eastern North Dakota need not apply and will receive grants of up to $4,000 per year.
